A lithium-polymer (LiPo) pack is only safe to use within the instructions for its exact battery, charger and product. This article is general safety information, not a substitute for those manuals or for qualified repair advice.
Use compatible, approved equipment
Use the battery type, charger, connector and settings specified by the manufacturer. Do not use a generic charger, improvise an adapter, mix cells, modify a pack or assume that a higher-voltage or higher-discharge pack is compatible with the device.
Charge and store with care
- Read the relevant manuals before use and follow their charge-current, temperature and storage instructions.
- Remain present while charging, use a non-combustible surface and keep the area clear of flammable material and escape routes.
- Store away from direct sun, heat, moisture and combustible material; never leave a pack in a hot vehicle.
- Do not put lithium batteries in general rubbish. Follow the manufacturer’s disposal instructions or contact an approved local recycler.
Stop using a damaged pack
Do not charge or use a battery that is swollen, leaking, punctured, unusually hot, discoloured, damaged, hissing or producing an unusual odour. Keep clear of a smoking or burning battery, prioritise evacuation and seek emergency assistance where needed. Do not handle a swollen or ruptured pack with bare hands.
