The bearing lets the roller spin with far less friction against course rails and guide fences, so the car sheds less speed when it brushes a wall in a corner, while the aluminum body keeps them lighter than a steel roller of the same size. Fitting may call for minor trimming of the body shell on some kits.
A narrower 17mm, 3-spoke version of this roller is also sold (Item 15161) for tighter roller-stay layouts where the extra 2mm this 19mm roller adds could foul adjacent parts. Tamiya's compatibility list for both covers essentially the full modern chassis range — Type 3 through Type 5, Zero, FM, FM-A, Super-1, Super-II, Super FM, Super TZ, Super X, Super XX, Super TZ-X, VS, MS, AR and MA chassis are all named — so the choice between the two comes down to available clearance rather than chassis fitment.
