Applied to the gearbox and drivetrain, it reduces friction to improve power transfer efficiency, and the compound is formulated to keep a consistent, smooth texture across a range of temperatures rather than stiffening in the cold or thinning when warm.
PTFE is the same low-friction fluoropolymer used in non-stick cookware coatings, and it's prized in Mini 4WD builds because, unlike many general-purpose greases, it doesn't thicken in cold storage or thin out once the gearbox warms up mid-race, so lubrication stays predictable from the first heat to the last. A small 3g tube goes a long way, since only a thin film on gear teeth and shaft contact points is needed -- over-applying grease attracts dust and grit from the track surface, which then grinds against the teeth instead of protecting them. It's intended for gears and shafts specifically; roller bearings are typically treated differently, run dry or with a dedicated bearing oil instead.
