Three sponge types with different friction levels are included so the amount of braking can be matched to a specific track's jump layout instead of relying on one fixed setting. Tamiya lists the set as compatible with Super-II, Super XX, MS, AR, MA, VZ, and ME chassis machines, covering essentially the full range of chassis with a rear brake-mounting area. Released in November 2011 alongside the 60mm hollow stainless shaft as Grade-Up Part No.441, the sponge sheets are typically cut to size and applied to the underside of the chassis just ahead of a jump, so the car's own weight compresses them into the track surface on the way up, bleeding off speed before the car becomes airborne.

Compare 1, 2 and 3 mm Tamiya 15512 blue brake sponge on a measured, repeatable Mini 4WD setup. Check the cited sources and current rules. Review this guide.
Mini 4WD brake sponge hardness and stay angle are two separate settings. Compare friction grade against mounting angle so the car slows safely and consistently.
