The center chassis is the largest single molded part on an MS chassis car, so trimming roughly 10% of its weight has a bigger effect on overall car weight than lightening most smaller individual parts would, while Tamiya keeps the rib and wall structure similar enough to the stock part to hold comparable rigidity rather than flexing more under load. The molded air intakes route airflow over the motor and gearbox, which matters on longer races where motor efficiency can fall off as it heats up.
