Description
Ray Spear is a Mini 4WD design from Takayuki Yamazaki, the "Hyper Designer" who left Honda to found pdc_designworks in 2012 and also works across fashion, modeling, DJing and design consulting. It's built on the compact, lightweight VZ chassis, which features reinforced bumper and rear-stay-base areas for crash durability, low-friction 620 bearings molded in POM, and an ABS chassis and A parts, running a 3.5:1 gear ratio.
Tamiya markets this kit under the tagline 'A Ray of Light.' It shares its VZ chassis and 3.5:1 gearing with the Iron Beak (item 18098), but where Iron Beak's V-shaped beak nose and two-section rear wing chase an aggressive look, Ray Spear channels Yamazaki's more restrained, fashion-and-design background into a smoother, less overtly aggressive silhouette.
