This pack contains six 8-tooth pinion gears molded in black carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, a stiffer and more wear-resistant material than the standard resin pinion supplied in most kits. A pinion that holds its tooth profile better under load transmits motor power with less loss, contributing to a more efficient drivetrain. Tamiya lists the gears as compatible across nearly the entire chassis range, from Type 3, Type 4, Type 5, and Zero through FM, Super-1, Super-II, the Super X/XX/TZ family, MS, AR, MA, VZ, and ME chassis, so a single pack can cover pinion replacements across several machines in a racer's fleet rather than being tied to one chassis generation. Released in July 2012 as Grade-Up Part No.453, six gears per pack is enough to keep a couple of spares on hand alongside the two fitted to a running car, useful since the pinion is the first gear to show wear from motor heat and constant mesh load.
