Low-Friction 24 mm Tires 15541: Compare Clearance

Tamiya item 15541 combines black 24 mm low-friction narrow tires with black three-spoke carbon-fiber-reinforced wheels. The smaller diameter is a setup change, not a universal speed upgrade. Tamiya describes potential effects on speed and center of gravity and notes that the reinforced wheels help hold shape. What matters for your car is fit, brake clearance and repeatable behavior on its actual course.

Check the host car

The official page lists many Mini 4WD chassis, including FM-A, Super-II, MS, AR, MA, VZ and ME, but warns that some chassis or bodies may need modification. Compare the wheel mounting and body opening on your specific kit. Do not infer fit from the chassis name alone. Record the old wheel diameter and its distance to any brake before removing it.

Seat a complete set evenly

The Japanese product page says the hard tires need a firm push to seat. Press them uniformly on the correct wheels; a tire left proud can cause visible wobble and make any handling comparison misleading. Hand-spin all wheels, check body clearance, then set the car on a level surface to see whether its brake geometry changed. Do not use a single wheel as a mixed-diameter experiment.

Compare whole runs

Keep motor, ratio, batteries, course and lane as consistent as practical. Time several clean laps and record derailments rather than quoting only the fastest one. A 24 mm tire can alter effective gearing, ground clearance and contact at a slope, so a result from another build does not transfer automatically. Measure the finished car against the current event rules.
