Tamiya 15451 vs 15472: Which Front Plate Fits Your Body?
Choose 15472 as the first candidate when preserving clearance around a Fully Cowled body is central to your build. Consider 15451 when its AR-oriented shape and documented roller positions match the car you are assembling. A chassis name alone cannot decide the purchase: the body, roller size, mounting height and nearby hardware must also fit. Confirm the exact arrangement before trimming anything.
What the two product numbers mean
Tamiya 15451 is the FRP wide front plate introduced for AR. Its English product description names mounting positions for 9, 11, 13 and 19mm rollers. Item 15472 is the curved FRP wide front plate intended around Fully Cowled bodies and names 9, 13 and 19mm roller positions. Those are concrete differences worth reading before choosing a packet.
Do not treat either list as a measurement of the completed car's width. Roller position, actual diameter and the rest of the mounting stack determine the finished result. A product's intended regulated setup is not a substitute for measuring your own assembly against the event's current limits. Follow the holes identified for the selected roller size.
Chassis mounting and body clearance are separate
A plate can line up with a bumper and still contact a shell. Tamiya describes 15472's outline as suited to Fully Cowled bodies; its page also carries compatibility and modification caveats. Read the item instructions for the exact car. Do not generalize a body-friendly design claim to every swapped shell, unusual roller stack or modified bumper.
Dry-fit with the body installed, wheels turning freely and all intended hardware present. Check both sides and the underside, including screw ends and nearby front tyres. If the body will not latch normally, identify the interference before cutting. Raising a plate to clear a shell also changes the roller height and may require a different screw length.
Worked purchase example: Cyclone Magnum Premium
Cyclone Magnum Premium 19440 is a Fully Cowled kit on an AR chassis. This is why simply buying the plate with “AR” in its name is an incomplete decision. For a build that retains the original body, start by checking 15472's curved outline and the desired 9, 13 or 19mm roller position against the kit and plate instructions.
If the planned assembly instead calls for a roller position documented on 15451, compare that plate with the body in place before purchase or modification. This is a worked decision process, not a claim that Monkee Mods has physically tested both plates on every 19440 configuration. A different body or a changed mounting stack needs a new check.
Complete the hardware plan before ordering
Write down plate, roller diameter, mounting holes, spacer heights and screw length as one assembly. Tamiya notes screws and roller stoppers with 15451, but supplied hardware must still match your planned stack. Do not assume one pack supplies every nut, collar or spacer required for a different roller configuration.
After assembly, tighten the hardware correctly and check that each roller rotates without rubbing. Measure overall width and inspect protruding fasteners and ground clearance. Record the arrangement so it can be rebuilt consistently. A front plate can provide useful mounting options, but neither FRP product supplies a proven lap-time gain by itself.

Frequently asked questions
Does an AR car always need 15451?
No. Body shape and intended roller arrangement can make 15472 a more appropriate candidate.
Does 15472 document 11mm mounting in its English description?
Its cited English description names 9, 13 and 19mm positions. Do not infer another position without checking the instructions.
Does chassis fit guarantee no body trimming?
No. Check the exact body, mounting stack and manufacturer caveats before making changes.
