Why a real track matters more than a speed checker
A speed checker tells you how quickly the wheels turn with little load. A course tells you whether the car can hold a lane through a corner, stay planted over a raised section and finish successive laps. Those are different problems. A motor that looks impressive on a bench can throw a car off at the first transition; a slightly slower setup that finishes consistently may be the better race car. On a multi-lane track you can also compare how the same build behaves after lane changes or small adjustments, instead of relying on a single straight-line reading.
Start with a reliable assembled car, fresh batteries and a written baseline. Run it without changing anything, note where it loses speed or leaves the track, then alter just one variable: roller position, tyre choice, brake height or gearing. Test again. What to bring to a Monkee Mods track session
- A fully assembled Mini 4WD car with its body securely attached, wheels seated and screws checked.
- Two suitable AA batteries plus spares; ask about any session or event-specific battery rule.
- A small screwdriver, spare tyres or gears, and a way to note each setup change.
- The rules for any race you plan to enter. Practice access and competition entry are separate arrangements.

Visit the free track at our Ara Damansara shop during operating hours. Bring your car and test it on the course, then explore the kits and parts in store if you need a repair or a measured change to your setup.
