The narrow tire profile reduces the contact patch with the track, which can improve acceleration and cornering by lowering rolling resistance, while the arched shape helps keep grip consistent across the reduced contact area.

Tamiya's compatibility listing actually extends this set slightly beyond its name, covering FM-A chassis in addition to Super X and Super XX. Keeping the wheel's large diameter while narrowing the tire is what lets it cut rolling resistance without also cutting into cornering grip the way simply going to a smaller-diameter tire would, since the outer rolling radius stays close to a standard wheel and tire's.
