Mini 4WD Tyres Guide

Tyre choice is a trade between grip and rolling resistance, and it is one of the fastest ways to change how a car behaves.

Hard compounds

Harder tyres roll with less resistance and last longer, which suits fast open layouts where cornering grip matters less. They also cope better with heat and humidity than soft compounds.

Soft and sponge

Softer tyres and sponge compounds grip more, helping acceleration and stability through banked sections, but they wear quickly and slow the car on long straights.

Diameter changes gearing

Tyre diameter alters the effective final drive exactly as wheel diameter does. Truing a tyre down reduces diameter, so a trued tyre is not the same setup as a new one.

Storage in humidity

Sponge tyres degrade in Malaysian conditions, going hard or crumbly. Store them sealed and out of sunlight, and expect a shorter useful life than the packaging suggests.
