Mini 4WD Cleaning and Care

A Mini 4WD picks up dust, track debris and old lubricant, and all three cost speed. Regular cleaning is one of the cheapest performance habits available.

Old grease is the problem

Grease attracts dust, and the resulting paste is abrasive. Grease that has gone grey or gritty is doing more harm than good and should be removed rather than topped up.

Strip and clean the drivetrain

Remove gears periodically, clean off old lubricant, check for wear, then re-lubricate sparingly. A drivetrain that has never been cleaned will be measurably slower than one that has.

Wheels, rollers and bearings

Clean the tyre contact surfaces and check that every roller still spins freely. Grit in a roller bearing is invisible and slows the car on every wall contact.

Malaysian humidity

Damp accelerates corrosion on axles, bearings and screws. Dry the car after a session and store it in a closed box rather than open on a shelf.
