Stock class restricts parts, motors or both, which shifts the competition from buying speed to extracting it.

Where the gains are

With components fixed, the differences come from build quality: gear mesh, bearing fit, axle trueness, wheel runout and tyre preparation. These are free and they are where stock races are won.

Prepare the drivetrain properly

Deburring gears, cleaning moulding flash and running the drivetrain in are all legal in most stock rulesets and make a measurable difference.

Setup still matters

Roller heights, brake balance and damping are usually unrestricted even where components are fixed. A well-set-up stock car beats a fast one that cannot finish.

Read the ruleset carefully

Stock class definitions vary between organisers. Confirm what is legal locally rather than assuming, because the penalty is usually disqualification rather than a warning.

Consistency wins

Restricted classes compress the field, so races are decided by who finishes every heat cleanly rather than who is quickest on one lap. Build for repeatability.
