Defense bits are built to do the opposite of an attacker: stay near the centre of the stadium, absorb contact rather than chase it, and outlast an opening rush instead of ending the battle early.

Needle-family bits: the smallest contact patch

Needle reduces the contact patch to a narrow point, which is what keeps a Blade planted near the centre; see our dedicated Needle Bit guide for the full component reference. High Needle raises that same point for extra clearance against a low attacker, while Under Needle lowers it further still — widely regarded as one of the lowest bits in the game, which drops its self-knockout risk and keeps the ratchet shielded from direct hits. Metal Needle swaps the standard plastic tip for a metal one, adding weight low in the build at the cost of some manoeuvrability, and Gear Needle pairs Needle's narrow point with gear teeth cut longer, reaching to the bottom of the tip, for a faster recovery after contact.

Spike-family and rim bits: absorb and hold upright

Spike offers a sharper, narrower cone than Needle, trading a little stability for an even smaller contact point. Bound Spike adds a free-moving collar around that same cone, and Dot shrinks the contact surface down close to a single point, both aimed at minimising how much of the tip an attacker can actually strike. Wedge uses angled rim geometry rather than a narrow tip to resist tilting, and Wall Wedge — a 2026 release — adds a raised wall around that wedge shape so the bey rights itself when the wall, not just the tip, touches the stadium floor.

Point: an attack-leaning Balance bit

Point is officially a Balance-type bit: an angled launch gives it active, ball-like movement, while a flat launch keeps it centred with high stamina. That launch-dependent flexibility makes it a reasonable bridge bit if you want some early mobility without giving up a defensive finish.
