Firefly vs Colonel Wasp: What's the Difference?

"Firefly" and "Colonel Wasp" show up together often enough in search that it's worth a straight answer: they are related but separate lines, and right now only one of them is a live, purchasable blaster.

What's actually current

The Monkee Mods Firefly is the active flagship platform — a shell-ejecting shotgun-style blaster with a full, currently stocked accessory ecosystem covering receiver sets, breeches, plunger tubes, magazines, springs, triggers and more. If you're shopping today, this is the platform with parts on the shelf.

Colonel Wasp Firefly and Colonel Wasp 76 are separate catalogue listings, but neither currently has a purchasable blaster under it — the Wasp 76 page surfaces only one unrelated barrel accessory. A third listing, Colonel Wasp 77, was described in a 2023 "what we know so far" post as an upgraded successor to the 76, but no such product exists on the site today; it appears to have never shipped.

How the two lines are actually related

They aren't the same shell under two names, but they aren't unrelated either. According to Monkee Mods' own 2022 introduction of the Colonel Wasp 76, that blaster shares the Firefly's plunger tube size, at roughly 80% of the Firefly's effective volume — genuine mechanical kinship, not a marketing coincidence. The Wasp 76 was documented as an open-bolt AEB design, around 220-230 FPS with a Worker Gen2 HE dart at 5 rounds per second from a 25cm barrel, compatible with Worker Talon straight magazines and using an AEG-style M4 buffer tube port.

The naming overlap in "Colonel Wasp Firefly" specifically suggests it was conceived as a Colonel-Wasp-branded shell built around Firefly internals — but with no products currently listed under that page, that variant is not something you can buy right now.

What this means if you're shopping

• If you want a blaster today, the Firefly is the one with real inventory. Its full parts catalogue is live and actively maintained.
• If you already own a Colonel Wasp 76, its documented internals overlap with the Firefly's plunger tube sizing. That doesn't guarantee every Firefly part fits without checking dimensions first, but it explains why the two lines get discussed together.
• Don't plan a build around the Colonel Wasp 77. It was speculative coverage of an upcoming product, not a listing of something that shipped.
