Mini 4WD Glossary

Mini 4WD racing has its own vocabulary, much of it borrowed from Japanese practice. These are the terms that come up most often.

Chassis codes

MS, MA, AR, VZ, VS, FM-A and Super X refer to specific Tamiya chassis platforms, each with a distinct motor position, wheelbase and flex behaviour.

Classes

Stock and B-MAX-style classes each set their own limits. Current Basic-MAX GP rules allow specified Tamiya Mini 4WD, Radio 4WD and Dangun parts while restricting certain modifications; local organisers can add requirements. Do not assume that B-MAX means “only parts from the kit box.”

Setup terms

Chochin and hikuo describe damping philosophies. AT bumpers absorb angled impacts. MS Flex is a technique of allowing controlled movement between the three MS chassis units.

Track features

A lane change is the raised bridge crossing between lanes. Bank-through and open jump sections are the features that most reward correct braking and damping.

Common shorthand

Setups are often written as chassis, motor, ratio and tyre in that order, so a note like MA / Hyper Dash / 3.7 / hard describes a full configuration in one line.
